Cattle

Lazy days on the farm.
We have recently changed our beef program around & are going back to a small cow/calf operation with our Hereford cattle. The herefords are known for their grazing ability, tender flavorful beef & even temperaments. We have some wonderful cows in our herd.
We will be selling the calves as feeders at about 7 months old. Currently we use artificial insemination with the cows & therefore don’t need to have a bull on premises. Hopefully most of them got bred, but we won’t know that for a little bit.
We have been raising beef since we went out of the dairy business in 1986. We began with a cow/calf operation then after several years began “finishing” them & marketing them for retail. We have now switched back to the cow/calf program to help simplify our lives a bit!
We pride ourselves on the fact that we grow happy, healthy beef animals in a very humane environment. We do offer our Hathaway Farm beef burgers for sale in the Snack Shack if you’d like to try them. Delish!!
Flossie is now 13 years old, the cow we often have in our Livestock Barn. She was born a twin & her mom would only take care of her sister & not her. This is not uncommon in the cow world & we don’t hold it against the cow. Because of this however, we had to bottle raise Flossie & she was in our Livestock Barn as a small calf & met all our visitors so she is very comfortable with this atmosphere now. She did not get bred last year so will not have a calf with her. She has some daughters who have calves this year though so they may also be in the Livestock Barn some of the time.
